What Happens When a Participant Is Flagged (TrustScore)?

Modified on Wed, 13 May at 12:11 PM

By default, a flagged TrustScore does not automatically stop a participant from receiving an incentive.

Additional action is only taken if your account has the Payment Review feature enabled.

When Payment Review is enabled:

  1. The participant claims their incentive as normal.
  2. Ayda performs fraud and risk checks during the payment process.
  3. If suspicious activity is detected, the payment is temporarily blocked.
  4. The incentive status changes to Under Review.
  5. A researcher must manually review the payment and either:
    • Approve the payment, or
    • Cancel the incentive

This process helps prevent potentially fraudulent payments from being completed while allowing researchers to make the final decision.

Does a Flagged Participant Automatically Mean Fraud?

No. A flagged TrustScore does not automatically confirm fraudulent behaviour.

TrustScores are designed to highlight activity patterns that may require additional review. Researchers should use TrustScores alongside their own project quality checks and participant validation processes.

Why TrustScores Matter

TrustScores help researchers:

  • Improve participant quality
  • Reduce fraudulent activity
  • Protect project budgets
  • Maintain research integrity
  • Review higher-risk participant activity more efficiently

To protect the effectiveness of the platform, Ayda does not publicly disclose the specific fraud detection rules, thresholds, or signals used within the TrustScore system.
